SALES AGENT
Completion of this 55 hour Maine Real Estate Commission approved course, followed by a state exam qualifies the student to apply for a non-renewable 2 year license. The course covers all the basics necessary to act in a “training capacity” under the supervision of the Designated Broker for a real estate company. During the 2 year period, the Sales Agent must take the 60 hour Associate Broker course and document approximately 40 hours of field experience. This course is offered several times a year in Bangor.
ASSOCIATE BROKER
This is the course required to continue practicing as a real estate licensee after completing 2 years as a Sales Agent. The course is 60 hours in length. The Associate Broker applicant must also document approximately 40 hours of field experience. In order to maintain the Associate Broker license, the licensee must complete 21 hours of continuing education every two years. This course is offered several times a year in Bangor.
BROKER
This is the highest level of licensing in real estate in Maine. In order to qualify as a Broker, a licensee must have practiced as an Associate Broker full-time during the year immediately preceding the application to be a Broker and satisfactorily complete the 45 hour course entitled “The Designated Broker”. THERE IS NO STATE EXAM. The Broker license is required in order to act as the Designated Broker of a real estate company. In order to maintain the Broker license, the licensee must complete 21 hours of continuing education every two years. This course is offered usually just once a year in Bangor.
